
Where is Martha’s Vineyard?
Martha’s Vineyard is an island 7 miles off the coast of Massachusetts.
How Do I Get to Martha’s Vineyard?
You can only get to the Vineyard by plane or ferry.
If you prefer to fly:
Direct flights (recommended): You can book direct flights from New York City (Jet Blue and Delta), Boston (Delta and Cape Air), and Washington D.C. (Jet Blue and American Airlines).
Other flights: You can book flights into Boston Logan. Once you land, you can take the Peter Pan bus (book in advance) or a car service (uber, etc.) to catch a ferry out of Woods Hole (see Steamship Authority below).
If you prefer to train:
Train to Boston: You can take the Amtrak train to Boston’s South Station. Once at South Station, you can take the Peter Pan bus or a car service to catch the ferry out of Woods Hole (see Steamship Authority Below).
Train to Rhode Island: You can take the Amtrak train to the Kingston, Rhode Island Station. From there, the Martha’s Vineyard Fast Ferry (see details below) provides its passengers with direct shuttle service to and from the train station/ferry terminal.
If you prefer to take a ferry:
Steamship Authority operates every day on an hourly basis from Woods Hole, MA. The trip between Woods Hole and Martha’s Vineyard takes 45 minutes, and bicycles and pets are welcome. It is the ONLY service that carries cars. Passengers can walk onto ANY of the Steamship ferries without reservations, year-round. If you plan to bring a car onto the island, we recommend you book your reservation as soon as the schedule becomes available in January. We will notify all guests when the ferry schedule is live for car bookings.
Martha’s Vineyard Fast Ferry from Quonset Point, Rhode Island. The fast ferry service from Quonset Point takes 1 hour and 45 minutes. Reservations are REQUIRED and available for purchase on the website or at the terminal.
SeaStreak from New Bedford in Southeastern Massachusetts. The fast ferry service from New Bedford takes 50 minutes. Reservations are REQUIRED and available for purchase on the website or at the terminal.
Do I Need a Car on Island?
No, you do not need a car to get around on. Ubers and taxis are available, but please note wait times can be long. You can also reserve taxi’s in advance via Adam Cabs.
If you prefer to have a car, you can either bring your own vehicle via ferry (see above) or rent one when you land. There is free parking available at both East Chop Beach Club (Welcome Dinner) and Agricultural Hall (Wedding).
Will There Be Shuttles ?
Shuttles will be provided to and from the Welcome Dinner and to and from the Wedding at select locations in Oak Bluffs and Edgartown. If you are not staying near one of these locations and would like to take the shuttle, you are welcome to make your way over to the shuttle via uber, taxi, or walking.
Where Should I Stay?
There are several hotel and house rental options. We recommend staying in Oak Bluffs, Edgartown, or Vineyard Haven, but transportation will only be provided from Oak Bluffs (~10 minute drive from Vineyard Haven) and Edgartown. Please refer to our Stay page to learn more.
